Reading together allows for discussion, learning, and fun! If your child needs to read more or they love to read, they will love being a part of our book club. “Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.” — Margaret Fuller
Is your child a reluctant reader? Does your child need more reading encouragement? Does your child love to read? We all know how important reading is to academic success, and just like you, we want your child to succeed.
Being a part of a book club will help your child build their reading skills, strengthen their confidence, expand their vocabulary, make reading fun, and encourage a lifelong love of reading.
However, THIS IS NOT YOUR ORDINARY BOOK CLUB! Unlike most book clubs that just get together to discuss what was read, we read together in class. Reading together in class allows your child to practice their reading and listening skills. But student reading does not stop there, this class also helps foster independent reading. Each week, your child will have at-home reading assigned.
* Your child will need a copy of the book or Kindle edition for this class.
A reading book club is a great opportunity for your child to take their reading to the next level by strengthen their reading comprehension, discover a variety of literary genres, gain exposure to new vocabulary, increase critical thinking skills, infer information, make personal connections, practice reading fluency, learn how to discuss what they are reading, and so much more. Your child will be provided a “Building Vocabulary Through Reading” worksheet to use while reading the book and a” Chapter Notes” worksheet.
The books chosen for this class are mostly on a 4th-grade reading level. To ensure the book is a good reading level for your child, please check out the books on Amazon (link below) and use the look inside feature to have your child read a few pages. The rule of thumb for this class is that the student misses no more than 5 words per page. While we help students with unfamiliar words, we also want them to find the right class.
We are here for your child, so please do not hesitate to contact us. We will provide feedback, comments, and/or suggestions for each student on a periodic or as-needed basis.
We choose books we feel are appropriate for all students, however, we appreciate that everyone has different thoughts and values. Therefore, I encourage you to visit commonsense media or another outlet to ensure the books are appropriate for your child. If your child is enrolled in the class, that is your acceptance of the book for your student to read.
