While we never like to teach to a test, we do know the importance of helping students feel confident when it comes to test time. This 4-week class teaches essential reading strategies and reading comprehension skills for reading success.
While we know state testing is just a one-time snapshot of a child’s ability, we want them to be ready and feel confident when test day comes.
This 4-week class will help your child learn the reading strategies and reinforce comprehension skills so they feel confident, not scared, when testing day rolls around.
In this class, we teach your child how to BECOME A READING DETECTIVE, finding the clues (reading comprehension) and applying strategies (techniques) to what they read. Just like a detective searches for clues to solve a mystery, we look for reading clues to help us better understand and connect with the material. Becoming a reading detective makes reading comprehension fun and builds your child’s confidence.
This detective-themed class is interactive with a lot of student engagement. Each session begins with an introduction to a particular reading comprehension skill, along with a reading strategy. We then practice the skill and strategy by reading teacher-provided stories together. Students will take turns reading round-robin style throughout the lesson and answering questions. As students read, we will assist them as needed with pronunciation, fluency, and proper reading techniques.
Our motto is Practice Makes Progress! Therefore, class does not stop when they turn off their computer; we provide after-class practice (with answers so you don’t have to send them back) for all the concepts we teach. The more you practice, the better you get!
Our teachers are friendly, encouraging, and passionate teachers, who meet each student exactly where they are. They regularly communicate with you regarding your child’s progress and what they are noticing in class. We also encourage you to reach out to us with any questions, comments, or concerns.
