Everyone can use additional reading help over the summer to keep up, catch up, or get ahead. We can't wait to help your child Become a Reading Detective!
Reading Comprehension is essential to school and life. When a student struggles to read fluently, comprehend, or retain what they are reading, they lose skills and confidence. Understanding and retaining what we read is essential for academic success.
Whether your child needs to catch up, keep up, or get ahead this summer, this class will help build and 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬.
This 8-week class is highly interactive, with plenty of opportunities for your child to participate. Each session starts with an engaging introduction to a specific reading comprehension skill. After introducing the skill, we move into practicing the skill. Your child will take turns reading aloud, followed by discussions and questions to strengthen their understanding of what they read.
The skills covered in the class include finding the details and main idea, learning how to infer information, using context clues to figure out unfamiliar vocabulary, and analyzing character traits. Each class is aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
As your child reads, we will assist them with pronunciation, fluency, and proper reading techniques. The reading material provided in class is 3rd/4th-grade material.
We teach “Practice Makes Progress!” After each class, we provide you with the details of what was taught as well as after-class practice for your child. This practice is not graded by us, but the answers are included, allowing you to assess the student at home as well.
As teachers and parents, we understand the importance of communication between parents and teachers. We communicate with parents regularly to share our feedback and suggestions. We encourage you to contact us with any questions, comments, or concerns. We are here for you and your students.
We are friendly, patient, and encouraging teachers who meet students where they are academically to help them see success. Don’t just take our word for it, check out our reviews!
Happy Reading! Happy Learning!
